FAQ's
1. Renting a Storage Unit
At YO Storage we have various storage unit sizes available ranging from 5 sqm to 72 sqm. Our most common units are 12 sqm and 18 sqm.
The unit is for storage purposes only. Other uses are not allowed.
- Move in 1st–15th → full month’s rent applies.
- Move in 16th–31st → 50% of the month’s rent applies.
The minimum contract duration is one month.
Here’s what you need to provide us when you are ready to move into your secure self storage unit:
- A copy of your ID – Should you be a foreign national, we will require proof of a valid work or residence permit
- Proof of account – A bank statement or the like
- A copy of your CIPC document – If you are a business
Yes immaterial of the length of rental you will be required to sign a rental contract.
2. Storage Charges and Payment
The monthly rent is payable on the 1st of every month.
Payments can be made via electronic transfer, direct deposit, credit card or debit order. If you do not use debit order, a R25 admin fee is added to your monthly rental.
Any overdue amount over 30 days may incur penalty interest.
No, we do not accept cash payments.
3. Ownership and Responsibility for Goods
Upon signing of the storage agreement you guarantee that all goods in the unit belong to you and are free of encumbrances.
You may not store:
- Dangerous, flammable, corrosive or noxious items
- Items that attract pests,
- Perishable products, including meat, fish, dairy or fresh produce.
- Animals or plants
- Illegal goods or any goods that invalidate insurance
- Firearms
4. Security: Keys and Access
You are responsible for your own padlocks and keys. Yo Storage will never hold your keys.
Our Standard Operating hours are:
- Weekdays: 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Saturdays: 9:00am – 1:00pm
- We are closed on public holidays and Sundays
Yes, but you must arrange it with management of YO Storage in advance and pay a R450.00 opening fee.
No. Subletting is not allowed.
Yes, we have trolleys available for you to use free of charge to move your larger items.
5. Maintenance and Unit Care
Yes. Keep it clean and in the same condition as at move-in. Fair wear and tear is accepted. Pest control inside the unit is your responsibility.
Only if:
- There’s suspicion of prohibited items
- It’s necessary to prevent loss or damage
- A law enforcement agent requires it
If this happens, your padlock will be replaced and keys returned to you.
6. Insurance
Yes. You are strongly advised to get comprehensive insurance for your goods. Yo Storage does not provide insurance and does not cover your goods.
7. Lien and Non-Payment
YO Storage has the right to retain your goods (lien) or sell them to recover unpaid fees and legal costs.
Yes. You are responsible for ongoing storage charges until your goods are released.
8. Price Changes
Yes. YO STORAGEmay revise fees periodically, but you will receive one month’s notice before any increase.
9. Ending the Contract
Either party can end the contract by giving one full calendar month’s written notice.
Yes, you are to ensure your unit is cleaned and handed over in the same condition it was provided to you.
